The MGAL Guerneville Pilot Program, launching in Fall 2022, will give 60 students an opportunity to participate in and help refine the MGAL model. During our pilot program, students will participate in the following programs:

Project Based Learning

Students collaborate, strategize, improve test-taking skills, increase comprehension, and more in project-based learning courses.

7th and 8th-grade students take their English and History courses with a project based learning pedagogy. Through comprehensive projects, students will develop and master competencies that are aligned with MGAL’s core values and the Sonoma County Portrait of a Graduate.

The experiential learning opportunity allows for exploring new skills and career paths, networking, and more.

Guerneville Unified 8th grade students will be matched with local businesses and professional mentors, where students will complete a 3 day, 15 hour externship. Students will follow MGAL’s externship curriculum, meet daily competencies, and give a final presentation of learning aligned with MGAL’s core values and the Sonoma County Portrait of a Graduate.

Domestic Travel

Travel is linked to higher academic performance, greater critical thinking skills, and enjoyable leadership opportunities.

A three day, two night domestic travel experience for 8th graders connected to student learning, voice, and choice. Students research and pitch to the MGAL team where they want to go, why, and how it is connected to student projects and larger goals.
